17. The Manger Bed

I love the story of Jesus being laid in a manger, which would be some kind of barn, where  there were animals.  A very interesting setting bordering on quirky for a baby nursery.  But could it be much more?  Perhaps it is a foretelling of Jesus’ purpose on the earth.

Luke 2:7 NKJV And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

Mary wrapped her baby lovingly with strips of cloths and laid him in a feeding trough, a place for animals to eat.

About 33 years later Jesus said:

1 Corinthians 11:24—When He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”

Jesus lived a sinless life, then paid our debt of sin on the cross.  When we believe in Jesus, and partake of Him, He lives on the inside! His life in us. Emmanuel—God with us!

Luke 2:7; Matthew 1:23; 1 Corinthians 11:24
